Built by Tesla Enthusiasts, for Tesla Buyers

We're a community of Tesla owners who care about getting the facts right before buying. SC01 is one of the most misunderstood codes in the used Tesla market: sellers often don't know the difference between SC01 and SC05, and buyers can end up overpaying for supercharging that disappears the moment the title transfers. Transfer policy is ultimately up to Tesla and can change, so verifying the current status matters.

TSLAIQ VIN Reports is here to help you navigate that confusion. We've put together what we've learned about eligible models, verification methods, codes, and buyer considerations so you have a starting point for doing your own research before making a purchase.

What you'll find here

Eligible models, SC code definitions, verification methods, hardware generation breakdowns (LDU, Autopilot, MCU), and community reviewed repair centers.

What this site isn't

Affiliated with Tesla, a brokerage, or a substitute for verifying SC01 with Tesla and/or the owner directly before you buy.

Why we built it

Sellers don't always know the SC01 vs SC05 difference, and buyers overpay for supercharging that disappears at title transfer. We want to help people avoid that.

What is SC01?

$0

Unlimited Free Charging

SC01 vehicles get unlimited free supercharging at any Tesla Supercharger station for the life of the vehicle.

Transfer Status Matters

Unlike SC05, SC01 has historically been reported as carrying over to the next owner on private sale. Transfer policy is Tesla's to set and change. Always verify directly before you buy.

2012–2017

Early Model S and X Window

SC01 was offered on Model S (2012–early 2017) and Model X (Sept 2015–early 2017). Any Tesla VIN can be decoded; SC01 eligibility is specific to that era.

Eligibility Cutoff
Vehicles ordered after January 15, 2017 or delivered after April 2017 generally do not have transferable SC01, even if they show “free supercharging” for the current owner. That's likely SC05, which reverts to pay-per-use the moment the car is sold.
